Apparently last year we had SRL come down to Southend for the day... not sure if it was something about Steve Collins (his son boxes at my mates son's boxing club)... anyway I missed him... only people that knew were people that followed him on FB... only time ever gutted not having that social stalking shitbag.. I have met Ali at his book signing... SRL would have been no 2

it was interesting hearing benn speaking on youtube about his boy conor who's also boxing now. nigel thinks he's a great prospect, will be interesting to see how he progresses

Love seeing Hagler interviewed. Chilled, smiling, happy in Italy and enjoying life, all his marbles, bit fucked off about the SRL result but not too much. Top man.

like the british golden era of the 90s, that four kings period will never be surpassed as it was four hall of famers squaring up on a regular basis, no one ducking anyone and boxing politics nowhere to be seen like modern day fighters

Northern Sold - Duran was approaching the end of his career when he moved up to fight Leonard. Naturally a lightweight, made the weight his whole career despite ballooning betwen fights. There's no fucking chance, none, in my mind that had the roles been reversed SRL would have got anywhere near him.

Read 'The Four Kings' chaps - brilliant book that covers that halcyon period chronologically and from the inside out with character insight

Benitez was an almighty shame. Prodigiously gifted but perhaps because of that even worse than Duran between fights. Even a small amount of discipline would have seen us talking about five greats. truly handed Duran his arse on a plate, Duran was out of condition, but even so just had no answer. The fight I admire SRL for above all others is outboxing Benitez. You had to be sensational to do that.
Again though, Duran is 6 or 7 years younger and about a stone lighter naturally. Get your time/weight machine and Benitez gets stopped. Such a talent though.

Crassus - I've had the same discussion on here many times. Duran, unquestionably in my mind, much as I love the other three.
Imagine a prime Duran, mid twenties, a stone bigger, fighting Leonard and Tommy Hearns. Almost two stone bigger fighting Hagler. Only one winner.
It's only my opinion but you will rarely find a list of all time greats of any authority that doesn't rate Duran higher than the other three. Ring magazine, Bert Sugar check them out.
With great respect to Mike, who loves Tommy Hearns, and Council Scum who loves SRL. Pound for pound, age for age, Duran takes them all.
